The UK-based York Guitar Quartet has released their latest album, Landscape with Trees (2016), which includes my composition Waves Obsidian (2008) for guitar quartet. The album is available for purchase on CD Baby and iTunes.

COMMISSION
The Toronto Symphony Orchestra, in partnership with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, has commissioned Shadows Radiant, one in a series of fanfares commissioned by the TSO, in celebration of the 150th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada, with financial assistance from the Government of Canada.

ORCHESTRAL APPOINTMENT – Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra


I'm beyond thrilled to announce that I'll be joining the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra as its Composer-in-Residence beginning in September 2016! I look forward to working with Music Director Alexander Mickelthwate and the WSO on new compositions every year, co-curating the WSO's acclaimed New Music Festival, and participating in the WSO's excellent community and education programs.

On December 9, I was awarded with the ASCAP Foundation's Leonard Bernstein Award, presented to me by Bernstein's daughter Nina Simmons at the awards ceremony in New York City.

COMPOSER-IN-RESIDENCE
Proud to serve as composer in residence for the Orchestre de chambre McGill / McGill Chamber Orchestra in 2015-16. I will be composing two new works, to be premiered on May 3, 2016 and June 7, 2016 at Salle Bourgie and Maison Symphonique, respectively (Montreal, Canada).

ALBUM PRODUCTION
This year I will be producing the 5th studio album of Canadian guitarist Patrick Kearney, featuring all contemporary music for solo guitar, including my work Hyperion (published by Les Productions d'OZ). Tracking begins in July and post-production through Fall 2015. Release date TBD.

COLLABORATION
In May-June of this year, I will be participating in the Quatuor Bozzini's 2015 Bozzini_Lab Vancouver. I will be composing a new work for string quartet, to be workshopped and premiered at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada.

ORCHESTRAL PERFORMANCES
Brittle Fracture has been programmed by the Victoria Symphony in British Columbia for the orchestra's historical 75th season. Performances will take place on January 23 & 24, 2016, alongside Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition and Chopin's Piano Concerto no. 1.

Ensemble 212 has selected Never the Same River, for 5 players, as co-winner of its 2015 call for scores. It will be performed as part of the ensemble's New Music for Young Audiences concert in NYC on March 7, 2015. Event info.

Musical Amoeba has selected Scent of Decay, for classical guitar and piano, as co-winner of its 2014 call for scores, along with works by Denton McCabe and Ed Martin. It will be performed by the Samadi-Keene Duo in NYC on February 7, 2015.

In late October I will be visiting Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. Two of my works, Kritikos Horos and Suite for Solo Cello, will be performed at the faculty chamber concert on October 27, 2014, and I will be giving presentations on my music in the days before and after the concert.

WORLD PREMIERE
Very excited to be taking part in the American Composers Orchestra's 2014 Underwood New Music Readings! The symphonic adaptation of my piece Brittle Fracture will be workshopped over the course of three days in June with mentor composers Julia Wolfe, Derek Bermel, Olly Wilson, and Robert Beaser, with the public reading to take place on June 7. Esther Diaries, with text by Ellen Frankel, will be premiered by soprano Sharon Azrieli with conductor Boris Brott and the McGill Chamber Orchestra at the Maison Symphonique (Symphony Hall at Place Des Arts) in Montreal.

My new piece for 14 players will be premiered by The Contemporary Music Ensemble (CUNY), with whom I will be composer-in-residence. Conductor/composer Whitney E. George will lead a wonderful concert that will also include Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring, Charles Ives's Central Park in the Dark, and a world premiere by my fellow composer-in-residence Austin Shadduck.

The concert will be held in Elebash Hall in Midtown Manhattan on May 8, 2013 at 7:30pm.

More exciting news: my Suite for Solo Cello has been selected as one of seven works to be choreographed and performed with contemporary dance. Ian RT Colless, artistic director of Untitled | Collective, will create the choreography for my piece. It will be performed by cellist Hiro Matsuo at Roulette in Brooklyn on February 17, 2013.

Also on the program will be works by my fellow composers Jonathan Howard Katz, Mary Kouyoumdjian, James Holt, Whitney E. George, Robert S. Cohen, and Dana Dmitri Richardson, and choreographers Sarah Mettin, Leigh Schanfein, Alisa Fendley, Sean Hoskins, and Shanna Daly.
